An Important Update on the Village Airfield Proposal

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

We have important news to share: 

"Patrick Orosco and Ken Griggs have opted to let their application for the proposed airfield development lapse. We do not yet know whether they have abandoned the project altogether or intend to submit a new plan. Development proposals may be submitted under the “builder’s remedy” guidelines until the county’s housing element receives final approval from California’s Department of Housing and Community Development; Monterey County has not received such final approval. We will keep the community updated as we learn more." Carmel Valley Association - July 29, 2026

This is encouraging news and undoubtedly a relief to many in our community, but it does not mean the project is gone. While this application has expired, the window for a Builder's Remedy proposal has not yet closed.

Under California's Builder's Remedy provisions, new development applications may still be submitted until Monterey County's Housing Element receives final approval from the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD). Monterey County has not yet received that final approval.

For that reason, FOVA will remain active and engaged. We will continue monitoring developments, working alongside the Carmel Valley Association, and keeping the community informed every step of the way.

Over the past few months, more than 1,000 residents signed petitions, attended meetings, volunteered their time, shared information with neighbors, and supported CVA's Airfield Defense Fund financially. 

Thank you for your continued support, your generosity, and your commitment to protecting the future of Carmel Valley Village. We hope to have more good news to share in the months ahead, but until then, we remain watchful.
